Novasteros is an intelligent but scruffy black pony that lives freeroaming when not at Kashira's side. Slightly too short to qualify for "horse height", he also appears a tad too small for someone of Kashira's height though he bears her weight very well. His build is one of strength and endurance, and also allows him a gallop of surprising speed for a pony. Oddly he completely lacks the trotting gait, though that seems to have been replaced with a particular running walk known as the tölt which suggests some Icelandic heritage. (Horse nerds should take note he doesn't have the second speedier gait of the Icelandic Horse.)

A thick coat of black hair covers the entirety of his body, coarse to the touch but very weather resistant, and seems to have been faded by the sun to a chocolate brown along his back. True to pony type his main and tail are also very thick and just as coarse, and also retain dead grass and sometimes burrs when he is freeroaming. The shape of his head is very reminiscent of the Exmoor pony, and his dark eyes hold a very gentle look. A patch of white rests between his eyes, and a small blaze of the same color starts at the beginning of his nose, extending between his nostrils and turning from white to pink as it crosses over his lips.
His dark hooves look to be very sound, and despite being unshod and untrimmed are kept well worn by the terrain he travels.

Personality wise Novasteros is a good natured and even tempered pony of incredible patience, and has formed a deep bond of trust with Kashira. Like many ponies Novasteros is also rather intelligent, and has been trained to respond to a combination of hand gestures and voice commands but only if issued by Kashira herself. On his own he has also figured out how to unlock most gates, and though he is aware of which types of people to avoid he generally maintains a good distance from all people if he is not accompanied by Kashira.
Novasteros is especially wary of most kinds of domestic dogs and all kinds of wild dogs, having been attacked numerous times before, and he is also capable of outrunning as well as outenduring them. However, he is just as likely to give chase to aggressive dogs and trample them as he is to run from them.
